Tom Maxwell – Velocity Restorations :
Doing the Impossible: “Mass Production Line” Manufacturing for Classic Mustangs, Broncos, Ford and Chevy Trucks!
There are people who love restoring their own vehicles, spending years crafting a project to perfection. There are also people willing to invest significant money and time having a car custom-built for them from the ground up. And then there’s the rest of the world — people who want a vehicle that brings back childhood memories, built the right way, without waiting years for it to be finished. That’s where Velocity Restorations comes in.
Velocity Restorations isn’t just a boutique, one-off restoration shop built around intimate, bespoke projects. Instead, they take a more a la carte approach. Customers choose from a curated range of options, all designed to work within a highly planned production system. Their build schedule is mapped out well in advance, long before a customer places an order. Materials, components, trim pieces, and hardware are all sourced ahead of time, ensuring consistency and efficiency. Customers still get meaningful choices — but those choices exist within proven production parameters. This is restoration done at scale, without sacrificing quality.
Most restoration shops specialize in one specific vehicle platform to maintain quality and leverage supplier relationships. Velocity takes a different approach. By commonizing processes and base components, they’re able to offer a broader lineup of vehicles without being limited to just one or two models. Each vehicle moves through a carefully engineered production line built around repeatable processes, allowing continuous improvement from build to build.
While the Low Volume Manufacturing Act allows companies to build brand-new versions of classic vehicles and sell them with new titles, Tom Maxwell says that’s not what Velocity’s customers are looking for. Their clients want authenticity. They want the history that comes with an original vehicle.
Velocity Restorations sources each project individually, starting with a genuine, original vehicle that’s brought back to life through a refined production restoration process. Their facility includes a large inventory of acquired vehicles waiting their turn on the line — and they’re always searching for more, as demand continues to grow. While Velocity does offer fully custom builds, Tom notes those projects naturally take much longer due to their non-production nature.
In the end, Velocity has taken the implausible thing and made it the possible thing, creating a place where small-scale mass production can produce classic vehicles for a set price and known time. From classic and Fox-body Mustangs to Broncos, Ford trucks, Chevy K5 Blazers, C10s, K10s, and even Scouts, they can build the vehicle you’ve dreamed about for years — often faster than most shops can even source the parts.

Velocity also produces some of the highest-quality build videos in the industry.
